“What should I expect when getting laser hair removal treatment?”

Before treatment, your skin cleansed of any lotions or beauty products. Then your practitioner will use a small handpiece to deliver an intense but gentle burst of energy onto targeted areas of the skin to remove unwanted hair. This treatment can take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the treatment area and the condition being treated. Some patients may feel slight discomfort, which has been compared to snapping a rubber band against the skin. However, discomfort resolves quickly and is minimized by our patented Dynamic Cooling Device.

“How long does laser hair removal last?”

Multiple treatments are required to achieve the full hair removal effect. The hairs on your body are not always at the same stage, so you’ll need to undergo a few treatments, an average of six to eight weeks apart, to catch them all in the growth stage.

“Is laser hair removal permanent?”

Waxing removes hair from the follicle immediately, but it grows back after a few weeks. On the other hand, laser hair removal attacks the follicle so that hair cannot grow back. Also keep in mind that laser treated hair may take time a few days or weeks to shed. When this happens, remember that this is not new hair growth, but a part of the hair removal process. You can clean and remove the hair by washing or wiping the area with a wet cloth or Loofah sponge.

prepare for laser hair removal

avoid sun exposure

Laser hair removal in Chilliwack is made a little easier 9 months out of the year. But on those sun soaked days please avoid sun exposure 4-6 weeks before and after treatment. Seek out shade or where a sun hat!

get advice on skin products

We will let you know if you should stop using any topical medications or skin care products 3-5 days prior to treatment.

avoid bleaching, plucking or waxing

Avoid bleaching, plucking or waxing hair for 6 weeks prior to treatment. This is because melanin-containing hair must be present in the follicle as it is the “target” for the laser light.

avoid tanning

Recently tanned skin cannot be treated! If treated within 2 weeks of active tanning in a booth you may develop hypopigmentation (white spots) after treatment.

Also, the use of self-tanning skin products must be discontinued one week before treatment. Any residual self tanner should be removed prior to treatment.
